INTRODUCTION

This museum was founded  in 1998 and has
relocated three times due to unforeseen
circumstances.

One day as Mr. Luster was reminiscing over
his collection and the knowledge he had
acquired from it throughout the years, he felt
a burst of pride in knowing that his ancestors
were such  powerful people. As he reveled in
his pride, he heard a little voice in his head.

He was remembering his father's words; his
father would often say:

" Don't hold things so tight in your fist...
Open up your fist and give back to the
community."

That was the day that Mr. Luster decided he
would open up his fist and give back to
his community, giving them a glimpse into
the past, present and future of a proud
people.

That was also the day he decided he must
find a space to share this.

He wanted to share this fascinating collection
with
all who are willing to take a moment out
of his or her busy day to visit.

We can now be found at the (NW
corner of E. Summerlin St. and S.
Jackson Ave.

Luster All African-American Heritage Museum is a Non- profit
Organization and realizes that it is the job of those of us who are
familiar with the struggles of the past, and the sacrifices that were
made by many in order that we
all may be treated equally and
afforded the same opportunities,  to be productive, successful,
proud, citizens.

Without a place like this to visit, many of today's African- American
youth will not know where they came from; or why their success is
so important to our culture. If the heritage is unknown and under
valued it's hard to understand the importance of how a Black
individual's achievements and success, affects and shapes the
African- American Culture as a whole.

It is imperative to know where you came from in order to know
where you are going
.

Neppie Alexander, a registered nurse in Winter Haven said that
she was surprised by the scope of the collection and below is her
account of the importance of this museum.

"This is not just items. This is Knowledge this reflects what has happened
through time. It starts at the world level and comes down to Polk county.
We are fortunate to have this here."
